Top 6 Ice Cream Places in the Concord Area

By Sarah Cates, Macaroni Kid Concord NH Publisher Mom May 9, 2023

When you started dating or got married, did you notice that there are some things that people and their families do totally different or more often? That's how it was when I got to know my (then future) husband and his ice cream habits. For my family, ice cream was a special treat. A few times during my childhood, my mom took us out for a "Pajama Party". First, she told us all to get ready for bed except for brushing our teeth. Then, we'd pile in the van, drive to our local ice cream stand, and eat ice cream in our pajamas. It was really a rare special treat and something I want to carry on.

On the other hand, when I was dating my (then future) husband, I found out it was not unusual for his family to go out for ice cream multiple times in a week. When I once said "We just went out for ice cream 2 days ago...", they replied "So.... What's your point? Haha!" Needless to say, I was not too upset to quickly adapt to more similar ice cream habits. As a result, I wanted to provide you with a good list of places to eat ice cream whether you make it a regular habit or occasional "Pajama Party".

Frekey's Dairy Freeze in Concord-  This ice cream place just keeps adding more things to make it not just a treat, but an experience! We enjoyed this location previously as Summer Freeze, but the new owner updated the building and grounds a lot including more seating, a little Free library, and now a HUGE chair built by CRTC students! With ice cream as cheap as a dollar and change, they are also the cheapest of all. We also noticed they have cookie ice cream cones, doggie sundaes, and lots of other themed sundaes for people! They are now open for the 2023 season and have excellent, friendly service as always!

True Confections Candies & Gifts- Previously located at Steeplegate Mall, True Confections is now on Loudon Rd. sort of across from Dairy Queen. They've added an ice cream parlor scooping 31 flavors of NH Made Memories premium ice cream, and NH roasted Mad River coffee (both hot & iced). Their new location offers inside tables and a great outdoor gazebo to enjoy your ice cream! They have also expanded their gift selection with NH made soy candles, additional NH made maple products, NH made puzzles and more!

Chucksters Ice Cream and Mini Golf- They offer 32 flavors including one-of-a-kind Chucksters Chunk and Upchuck with plenty of seating inside and out. Chucksters Chunk is like Moose Tracks but with twice as many chunks. Upchuck is a puke-green-colored cake batter ice cream with a few surprises. This new Chucksters location also offers the world's longest, shortest, hardest, and easiest mini golf holes. It is on my to do list to go at night next when even the waterfalls are lit up! Also, check out Chucksters Family Fun Park in Chichester! There are tons of activities for the whole family along with ice cream, of course!

Beech Hill Farm and Ice Cream Barn- This is a favorite for families especially because of the many activities there are. You can enjoy a wide variety of animals (including a peacock!), a greenhouse/flower shop, a big sand pit with toys for the kids, great gift shop, a corn maze in the fall, and a beautiful barn for hosting events. Weddings are not permitted (we tried), but it's a great place for birthdays or other events! I'm not sure if I should share this little secret with too many, but... you HAVE to go on the last day they are open. On that day only, you can get any ice cream or frozen yogurt for just $1/scoop!

Richardson's Farm in Boscawen- They are open year-round for people like my husband who crave ice cream no matter how cold it is outside. If you go inside to order, you can check out a variety of other tasty homebaked treats. The apple crisp is amazing! Also look for their free sample of hot apple cider on the counter opposite the register and farm fresh produce.

Arnie's Place- If you want to enjoy your ice cream in a neat, retro environment, you need to check out Arnie's Place if you haven't already! Along with ice cream,  they offer other delicious items such as pulled pork, burgers, and root beer floats! Be sure not to visit one of the events that they have throughout the summer including a car show each week! It's the perfect place to enjoy a shake while swooning over some classic cars!

Extra Bonus: The Brick House in Hooksett was Nominated several times for the Gold Daisy Award for Best Ice Cream Place. I have not eaten there yet, unfortunately, so I am including it here so you can try it, too!
