6 Ways to Celebrate Girlfriends Day in the Concord Area

Have Fun with Your Closest Friends August 1

By Sarah Cates, Macaroni Kid Concord Publisher Mom July 22, 2019

August 1 is National Girlfriends Day- a day to celebrate those girls that always have your back. It is a great excuse to plan for someone to watch the kids and get out for the day or evening. I know you are probably busy with kids, work, keeping the house running smoothly, and everything else. Although, you also need some fun and time with the girls. What is there for girlfriends to do in the Concord area? Lots! First, check our Macaroni Kid calendar for special events. Then, check out these:

Explore the Rails- It seems Concord is becoming more family-friendly, fun, and focused on wellness. Scenic RailRiders is open for the season and incorporates all of those! They are utilizing an old, abandoned railroad track as a new way to have fun and get exercise! You can grab 1-3 girlfriends and use rail-bikes to pedal together through a scenic area of Concord. It is located right next to the Sewell Falls Recreation Area, so you do not have to travel far for this adventure! You can check out videos, pictures, and more on their Facebook page. I can't wait to try it out myself!

Pottery Painting- Want to get creative? There's a paint-your-own pottery place right here in Concord called You're Fired! Unfortunately, I haven't tried it out yet. But, with great ratings and reviews, it is sure to be the perfect place to hang out with your girlfriends especially the artistic, creative ones. Take note that if you can't celebrate Girlfriends Day exactly on August 1, planning it for any Tuesday or Thursday would be great, because that's when they have Ladies Night!

Photo Scavenger Hunt- If you get together with a group of girlfriends, I suggest competing in a photo scavenger hunt like the Selfie Scavenger Hunt I created for the Concord area. The article explains different ways you may do the selfie scavenger hunt, but I suggest printing off the selfie scavenger hunt checklist, splitting into groups, and rewarding the fastest group with free dessert or something. By doing so, there will be a competitive element, but also provide time for socializing with everyone that participates! There are also plenty of other scavenger hunt ideas all over the internet especially on Pinterest.

Thrift Store Fashion Show- This is a cool idea that my mom's friend had years ago. It's cool in the do-something-weird-because-I'm-uniquely-awesome sense of the word... First, you and your girlfriend(s) go to a thrift store and pick out a dress for each other. Then, you wear that dress for the rest of the night wherever you go (maybe dinner or just frolicking at the mall). In theory, you would choose the weirdest dresses you can find. I would personally be on the lookout for big, puffy sleeves and huge floral print (blah!) for my friends. You can add accessories and shoes, too, if you want to be generous. Here are some local thrift stores: Corey's Closet, Salvation Army Family Store, Goodwill, and Lelise Designer Resale. Each one ranges in quality, price, and style, so you may want to determine what is best for your group beforehand.

Escape an Escape Room- Do you and your friends love a challenge? Escape Room Concord NH has reopened and now has 5 options of rooms. The rooms are named The Lion's Den, The Library, The Enigma, the Sanctuary, and the Dragon's Chamber. Each one is unique and filled with technology to provide players a great, interactive experience. You and your girlfriend(s) will have 60 minutes to figure out how to escape the room. You will have a great time working together and can take home a picture of yourselves proclaiming victory IF you can escape.

Go See a Show- We do have options for shows on Girlfriends Day. Check out what is showing at Regal Cinema. Of course, if you want to travel a little further, you can get dinner and drinks with your movie at Smitty's Cinema or Chunky's. In previous years, my family and friends enjoyed watching the Superbowl at Smitty's and Chunky's for free! Then, there is the option of driving up to Weirs Drive-In Theater for another unique experience. It's perfect for those that want to talk throughout the movie(s).
