Save the Dates: 10 Big Events in September in the Concord Area

Oh, September. The kids are back to school, the sun is going down earlier, the nights are cooler ... and fall officially arrives.

But did you know it's also the month it’s a big month of fairs, festivals, and even free family fun in the Concord, NH area?

Here are 10 BIG September events that can help you have a ton of fun with your kids this month. (If you haven't already, be sure to subscribe to get all the top events in the Concord area emailed to you each week!)

1. Hopkinton State Fair
Sept. 1-5

From food to animals, rides to a demolition derby, the Hopkinton State Fair has tons of fun stuff to do! Get an even better value by obtaining a Mega Pass (for unlimited rides), a Fair Fan Pass (for all 5 days), or by attending Townie Night on Thursday (if you're a Hopkinton resident)! Check the complete schedule for special shows such as the Monster Truck show, Demolition Derby, and Northeast Six Shooters.

2. National Cinema Day
Sept. 3

Many theaters all across the United States are offering movie tickets for just $3 in order to encourage people to get back to the theater to enjoy movies! Regal Cinema (Hooksett and Concord) is participating, so you can see any showing of any movie in the theater for just $3.

3.10th Annual NH Monarch Festival
Sept. 10

The 10th Annual NH Monarch Festival will provide hands-on tools and expert advice on how families can sustain and improve habitat for migrating Monarchs and other vital pollinators, all while giving kids fun ways to celebrate and learn about these amazing creatures. The Festival will include kids’ activities and games, the “Tale Trail” (featuring a book written by children about milkweed and Monarchs), educational and nature art vendors, butterfly tagging demonstration, book author readings, two new labyrinths (one contemplative, one kid-friendly), “Ask-a-Master-Gardener” table, FREE milkweed seeds, 2 miles of woodland trails and garden paths, hundreds of flower varieties, and much more. 

4. Aerospacefest
Sept. 10

Join us for our 27th annual AerospaceFest! September 10th, 2022 from 10:30am-4pm. Observe the sun through telescope filters with the NH Astronomical Society. Participate in hands-on science activities with Discovery Center educators. Meet ambassador animals from the Millstone Wildlife Center. Sing and dance along with Mr. Aaron’s Intergalactic Music Spectacular. See science in exciting action with Mad Science of Maine. Celebrate this year’s recipients of the Alex Higgins Memorial Space Camp Scholarship. Be one of the first people to see our new planetarium show, Birth of Planet Earth. 5. Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day
Sept. 17

Museums will open its doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticket holders on Saturday September 17, 2022 as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 18th annual Museum Day, a national celebration of boundless curiosity in which participating museums emulate the free admission policy at the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington D.C.-based museums

Museum Day tickets are available for download at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present a Museum Day ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues on September 17, 2022. One ticket is permitted per email address. A list of participating museums, which will be continually updated, can be found at Smithsonian.com/museumday/search.

6. Hooksett Old Home Day
Sept. 17

Come for lots of fun including a parade, live music, vendors, eating contests, and fireworks! Lots of fun for all! More details to come. The event will take place Rain or Shine.

7. Concord Multicultural Festival
Sept. 18

A celebration of all cultures, featuring: Entertainment by local performers, local ethnic food vendors, cultural crafts made by local artists, traditional arts demonstrations, activities for all ages, and so much more! 

8. Wings and Wheels
Sept. 24

Get ready to take flight with Wings & Wheels, at Concord's Municipal Airport! This free, family-friendly event will include interactive exhibits, antique vehicles and aircraft, and many other activities. Food will also be available for purchase.

9. Capital Arts Fest
Sept. 24- 25

Check out the handiwork of lots of local craftsmen, enjoy live music, dance, tour the historic Concord, and grab a bite to eat from one of the food trucks. You can even start (or continue?) Christmas shopping with some of the great, local products that are being sold! The live music line up includes Firefall, NH Scot Pipe Band, Concord Community Music School Jazz Band, and more!

10. Deerfield Fair
Sept. 29-Oct. 2

Fall is here! That means it is time for New England's Oldest Family Fair. The Deerfield Fair celebrates 145 years of fun September 29-October 2. Come experience all this event has to offer: animals, agriculture, acrobats, competitions, vendors, music, magic, and more. Of course, don't miss the rides and fair food! Whether you have been coming here for generations, or this is your first time, don't miss this New Hampshire tradition.
